OK, THEN!

Dinner and a glass and a half of Portuguese wine later, I am committed to training toward the 30K portion of the 2005 Toronto Ultra Race.

Ever onward, indeed!

HMMM . . .

. . . thinking about training schedules and plotting running events on my 2005 calendar.

I'm wondering if I'm ready to start the Bingham run/walk marathon program. It would increase my run/walk days from a gentle three times each week to four times, and it would see me move up from run 3 minutes/walk 2 minutes to the more demanding run 4/walk 1 regimen.

Since I've stopped losing weight after the initial 10 pounds dropped, maybe I need to work harder than my current gentle--and injury-free--program.

I'm not actually thinking of the full marathon distance yet, but the 30K that's part of the Toronto Ultra Races in early May. See long-term goal at right.

It just happens that I would reach the 18-mile level on the Bingham schedule right in time for the Toronto Ultra, a race I founded 65 pounds ago. See item at right under Moi.

Running 100K again is the long-term goal. If I'm successful with the 30K this year, I could bump up to 50K next year and then take on 100K the following year when I turn 65.

Aren't I getting ahead of myself? No, not really. To function at my happiest and best, I need to make plans and set goals.

Ever onward! (That would make an appropriate epitaph.)

RUN/WALK -- 41 MINUTES, WEIGHT -- 237

A bit dicey down by the lake, because of snow and ice on the boardwalk, but otherwise a fine little run as I come back to the comeback.

For the first time in almost 52 weeks, I got out of the routine for a couple of weeks, what with the pressure of work right after vacation, looking after elderly parents, preparation for the holidays, and Christmas itself.

I am pleased that despite all that I've not blossomed up in weight.

This week, I'll go for 45 minutes or so twice and then head out for a full hour on Sunday before I resume John Bingham's run/walk half-marathon program as outlined in Marathoning for Mortals. See Running Resources at right. Previously, I used the Bingham walk/run program, initially on the marathon plan but then dropping back to the half, with satisfactory results.
