Born-Again Runner
Backgrounder, dated January 9, 2004: I'm in my 62nd year, having carried 242 to 246 pounds on my 6'1-1/2" frame for too many years. My high-school weight was 176, so I could drop up to 70 pounds, if I could. Today, I ran for the first time in years, almost three minutes--twice! I've been born again. Alleluia!

GYM -- 15 MINUTES

A brief workout to get back into the swing of things:walk/run three times weekly, gym two or three times, rest one or two days. Basically, it's the John Bingham training program to walk/run a half-marathon. I'll be adding one longer run in early September to be ready, the born-again runner said hopefully, for the 25K at month's end.

The hamstrings were not exactly neutral today, and I'm looking forward to tomorrow's walk/run to see what's what. I suspect I'll be anxious about what's what all the way to September.

Thanks to Rory Sangalang for his encouragement in a comment on yesterday's post. It does feel good to be a runner again, if only partially.
