Born-Again Runner
Backgrounder, dated January 9, 2004: I'm in my 62nd year, having carried 242 to 246 pounds on my 6'1-1/2" frame for too many years. My high-school weight was 176, so I could drop up to 70 pounds, if I could. Today, I ran for the first time in years, almost three minutes--twice! I've been born again. Alleluia!

GYM -- 30+ MINUTES

I see where Vera Komarkova, mountaineer extraordinaire, has died at age 62, of cancer. She was among the first women to scale the highest peaks in the world. In 1978, she was part of the American Women's Himalayan Expedition that reached the summit of Annapurna. Eighty percent of the expedition costs were covered by sales of a T-shirt that proclaimed, "A woman's place is on top."

I bought one of the shirts, wore it a lot, and then handed it down to Significant Other for use as a night shirt. Must ask her if it's still around.
