Born-Again Runner
Backgrounder, dated January 9, 2004: I'm in my 62nd year, having carried 242 to 246 pounds on my 6'1-1/2" frame for too many years. My high-school weight was 176, so I could drop up to 70 pounds, if I could. Today, I ran for the first time in years, almost three minutes--twice! I've been born again. Alleluia!

BIKE WATERFRONT 44 MINUTES, DISTANCE 12.3 KM

Moderate effort, and wonderful weather after the heat and humidity of the last week.

Last night awoke with pain in right shin so time to resume the stretches to ward off shin splints. I'd like to add a couple of miles to the Sunday walk/run this week, so cannot be limping.

Tonight, in the list of referers (sites pointing to this blog), I discovered Chasing the Hawk, a book about George Sheehan, the first philosopher of running, by his son. Sounds like it might be an interesting read:
