Born-Again Runner
Backgrounder, dated January 9, 2004: I'm in my 62nd year, having carried 242 to 246 pounds on my 6'1-1/2" frame for too many years. My high-school weight was 176, so I could drop up to 70 pounds, if I could. Today, I ran for the first time in years, almost three minutes--twice! I've been born again. Alleluia!

BIKE WATERFRONT 58 MINUTES, DISTANCE 18.6 KM, AVERAGE SPEED 18.7 KM/H

I was planning an easy ride, but when some young thing zoomed passed me, I decided to tag along for the scenery. She left me, but then I picked up another rider and before I knew it I was at the turnaround point, with a top speed of 41 kph registered--a record for me.

I've ridden almost 10 hours since I got the bike, over a bunch of weeks. Now, one hour twice a week should be my minimum. With another two hours at least for walk/run, and about 90 minutes in the gym.

Once I stop eating like a horse, I should get into great shape, he said hopefully.
