Born-Again Runner
Backgrounder, dated January 9, 2004: I'm in my 62nd year, having carried 242 to 246 pounds on my 6'1-1/2" frame for too many years. My high-school weight was 176, so I could drop up to 70 pounds, if I could. Today, I ran for the first time in years, almost three minutes--twice! I've been born again. Alleluia!

WALK/RUN 4/1 41 MINUTES TO LAKE ONTARIO

When the wind is blowing from the south, the sound of surf is my bonus for making it down to the lakeshore.

With eight brief runs today, I've started the gentle John Bingham training program that should see me walk/run a half in 16 weeks or a marathon in 20 weeks. If it's the latter, I might be able to take a crack at the 30K or 50K at Toronto Ultra Races in May. With the former, I could give 26K a shot at the Seaton Trail Race in April.

Born again, eh?
