Born-Again Runner . . . sort of
Backgrounder, dated January 9, 2004: I'm in my 62nd year, having carried 242 to 246 pounds on my 6'1-1/2" frame for too many years. My high-school weight was 176, so I could drop up to 70 pounds, if I could. Today, I ran for the first time in years, almost three minutes--twice! I've been born again. Alleluia!

WALK/RUN 3/1 32 MINUTES ON TREADMILL

Holy moly! I had an old-fashioned breakfast this morning and blew my day's diet all to hell. Two eggs over easy, three sausages, a heap of home fries, buttered toast, and a glass of milk--and there's 1,474 calories right there, almost half of today's total intake.

I guess I won't be doing that too often.

My usual breakfast--egg whites, onions, mushrooms, and juice--is 250 calories. A homemade blueberry banana bran muffin will add 154 calories. So, compare 400 or less to almost 1,500.

Calories eaten today, 3,255, calories burned, 3,239.

After four excellent days, I stood still, essentially, in weight loss today, and many of those calories were bad calories. Usually, I get about 25 percent of calories from fat. Today it was 49 percent.
