Born-Again Runner . . . sort of
Backgrounder, dated January 9, 2004: I'm in my 62nd year, having carried 242 to 246 pounds on my 6'1-1/2" frame for too many years. My high-school weight was 176, so I could drop up to 70 pounds, if I could. Today, I ran for the first time in years, almost three minutes--twice! I've been born again. Alleluia!

WALK 55 MINUTES ON ILE HAVRE-AUBERT -- WEIGHT 237

After indulging in lobster on three out of our first four days on Iles de la Madeleine, we have turned our attention to snow crab.

The local snow crabs reside 40 kilometres west-southwest of Les Iles in deep water, 45 to 275 metres. They are fished with traps, starting in April and ending when the quota has been reached. Happily, this year's harvest is continuing, and we are able to feast on the sweet meat.

With new potatoes and excellent butter from Prince Edward Island, and locally grown hydrophonic lettuce. With the butter liberally laced with garlic--You guessed it!--from China.

Our aim to eat fresh and eat local as much as possible, and we're succeeding nicely.

And here's the bonus: As in most of Quebec, well-priced Cahors and syrah reds from France are readily available.
