Born-Again Runner . . . sort of
Backgrounder, dated January 9, 2004: I'm in my 62nd year, having carried 242 to 246 pounds on my 6'1-1/2" frame for too many years. My high-school weight was 176, so I could drop up to 70 pounds, if I could. Today, I ran for the first time in years, almost three minutes--twice! I've been born again. Alleluia!

BLOOD PRESSURE UP

Awoke earlier than usual and didn't feel right, so got the BP monitor out. Pulse is pretty good at 57 but blood pressure is high: 147/97. What's going on?

I'm carrying too much weight, that's what. By estimating my Body Mass Index (BMI) , I find my 234 pounds puts me at 30.9. Obesity starts at 30.0.
