I've made available a first, early, release of Regexinator, the Visual Studio RegEx add-in for VS.NET 2003. There are a number of issues that you should probably be aware of, but none of them particularly hairy
1. The UI sucks - I know. It's 10 days since I started the project and in that time I've really probably only spent about 5 hours working on it (working at Edenbrook, working on the book, and of course being with my family are higher priorities). It will change though
2. The RegExLib tab is not yet hooked up - it doesn't do anything at all. Hopefully my compatriot will take that one over.
3. There's no special support in there for match groups. Ultimately you'll be able to key in regexes with match groups and see the actual individual groups matched listed.
4. It only supports VS.NET 2003. There are plans to add it to Whidbey and the express tools once more of the core functionality is complete.
To use it, download the installer from the workspace, and run it. We have a bug at the moment where the RegExinator window doesn't actually appear as soon as you start Visual Studio up, so you need to go to the Tools menu, choose the add in manager and then disable the add in. Then repeat the process, reenabling the add-in. It's not as bad as it sounds - on my machines it involves doing Alt-T, A, Space, Return, twice, then up pops the window. I'll get this one fixed ASAP.
Incidentally any and all feedback is appreciated, as is help. If there's a feature you want to see in the tool please please let me know. Alternatively, if you know how to code and want to add something of your own, then go to the workspace, apply for membership and get coding. The more the merrier I say.
