Many Are Cool to Intelligence Plan (washingtonpost.com). washingtonpost.com - A far-reaching proposal by Senate Republicans to dismantle the CIA and remove key intelligence agencies from the Pentagon ran into heavy political opposition yesterday, not only from key members of Congress but also from longtime former CIA director George J. Tenet. [Yahoo! News - Top Stories]

Here we go.  If you thought anyone was going to adopt the 9/11 Commission recommendations without a fight, you are sadly mistaken.  This is only the first round of FUD.

On the other side of the aisle, an article in Sunday's Washington POST said that the labour negotiations between the Department of Homeland Security and the three unions that work there have broken down.

If you haven't been following it, the Federal Government (Bush) want's to get rid of the unions (and their protections) in the DHS as a model for other government (read DOD) agencies.  While I belive the union structure in the Federal Government needs work (where else can you screw up and not get fired), if they cannot get it working at DHS where it is probably most needed, how do they expect to get it working at DOD, which is an unwieldy monster - last I read, it had a budget that exceeded the GDP of Russia.  That is a BIG budget

Lilly Throws One of Three Shutouts in AL (AP). AP - Ted Lilly's three-hit shutout against the surging Boston Red Sox was barely the best pitching performance in the American League. Detroit's Jeremy Bonderman struck out a career-high 14 Monday night in a 7-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox, and Scott Kazmir pitched five scoreless innings to win his major league debut for Tampa Bay.
