French Students Face New Head Scarf Ban (AP). AP - Millions of French students returned to school Thursday as a new law banning Islamic head scarves from classrooms went into effect despite demands by Islamic radicals holding two French hostages in Iraq that the law be scrapped. [Yahoo! News - Top Stories]

An interesting solution to an interesting problem.  Whether or not you are in favor of it, it does raise some very interesting questions that I expect will be asked in North America before far too long.

Instant Messaging Is Growing Up, Going to Work (washingtonpost.com). washingtonpost.com - If you're an avid instant messenger, you probably know what I mean: "Instant messaging doesn't work for me, does it work for you?" Yet I appear to be on the way to becoming a minority, a fuddy-dud resisting the text-chat party. Instant messaging, or IM, is catching on with adults in a big way as it moves rapidly into the workplace, according to recent surveys. In fact, analysts predict IM soon will overtake e-mail as the No. 1 form of electronic communication. [Yahoo! News - Technology]

Actually, I don't find this surprising.  People used to use email as an "instant" response vehicle, but with the increase in SPAM and email volume in general, it is just not the "instant" tool it used to be.  So enter IM, which in 3 years will have the same problems of "instant" response that email has.  I have found a couple of occasions where IM has been useful, but generally, it doesn't work for me either.
