Rehnquist Sees Threat to Judiciary (Los Angeles Times). Los Angeles Times - WASHINGTON — Ailing Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist said today that judges must be protected from political threats, including from conservative Republicans who maintain that "judicial activists" should be impeached and removed from office. [Yahoo! News: Top Stories]

I have had the honor of meeting Cheif Justice Rehnquist (off the bar - as a normal person).  He is a man that knows and understands how things should be.  Politically, we will always disagree.  From a reality standpoint, we are on the same page.  I was sorry to hear about his cancer.

Bush Orders Flag Tribute to Tsunami Victims (Reuters). Reuters - President Bush on Saturday ordered the U.S. flag to be flown at half-staff for five days to honor victims of the Indian Ocean tsunami as a White House delegation prepared to visit devastated areas. [Yahoo! News: Top Stories]

Try as I might, I just cannot find anything to complain about on this one.  Attaboy.

It is 2005!  Yippee!  Whoopee!  Big deal?!!?  Well, let us all hope that in 2005, the current leaders of the United States will wake up and make the following resolutions:

1) Iraq is a lost cause.  Put the CIA on the job and bring the troops home.

2) The deficit is far too high.  Spending money that you don't have is not a wise idea.  Pay down the deficit before it causes more problems.

3) Health care is not an option for most people.  Fix the system before it becomes a serious problem.  Start with the medical malpractice settlements.  Then reduce the paperwork - these are two of the doctors biggest gripes (and I am not an MD).

4) The Congress should follow the laws of the land that they lay down.  Nothing less.

5) Airport security, like most of the security in the United States is a joke.  If you want real security, do what is required to fix the problem - there are several good books on the subject.  I suggest you read them.

6) Unemployment/underemployment is still an issue - regardless of what the numbers show.

Have a Happy New Year.  May 2005 be better than 2004
