Rice Is Confirmed Amid Criticism (washingtonpost.com). washingtonpost.com - The Senate confirmed President Bush's choice for secretary of state and advanced his nominee for attorney general yesterday, but in the process, Democrats registered discontent with Bush's Iraq war policies to a degree that surprised even some of their party's leaders. This comes as no surprise.  Is she the best person for the job.  I guess only history will tell, but there are those that don't think she is the right choice for the job.  Personally, I have my doubts that she will be able to repair the damage done over the last four years.  Let us hope that she is able to keep her foot out of her mouth.

Caught not once but twice with his hand in the cookie jar.  I guess it is about time to change gears right?  I think Homer said it best...d'oh!

Eighty billion dollars.  That's $80,000,000,000.00.  Assuming there are 250,000,000 people in the United States, that is $320 per person that President Bush is asking for from the American public to fund conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan (how many forgot there is still action in Afghanistan, raise your hands).  This is over an above the amount is he asking for just to keep the government running, secure the homeland, make sure no child is left behind and pay for the Inauguration (but not the security for same).  I don't know about you, but I have better things to do with $320.  For instance, that will cover two weeks of child care, or a month's commuting costs (with a couple of bucks left over for coffee).  I could go out for dinner at a couple of really nice restaurants, cover a car payment or buy a new computer.  That is gas for a couple of months (for my cars) or the entire winter for the house.  $320 per person, would come close to covering a mortgage payment in my house or pay for plane tickets and a nice week somewhere.  Instead, it is going into a slush fund. The administration hasn't spent the first allocation (yet) and they are back asking for more.  And they haven't even asked for the money for tsunami relief yet.  Better fire up the printing presses, the deficit is about to get a lot larger.
