Q&A Part 2: Microsoft's Allchin dispels myths on 64-bit computing. Microsoft's Jim Allchin, group vice president of platforms at the software vendor, wants to dispel the idea that 64-bit computing is helpful only for big database servers and CAD applications. [Computerworld News]

Frankly, unless you are rendering graphic, dealing with video production or medical films, 64-bit computing has no real practical value for the average end user.  Most people do not need the computing power they have now, as is witnessed by the number of people that can surf the Internet on their cell phones.  If you can do it with the computing power in a phone, why do you need a 64-bit machine that can handle gigabytes of RAM and terabytes of data?

Adobe to buy Macromedia for $3.4 billion. Adobe Systems has reached a definitive agreement to acquire Macromedia for $3.4 billion in stock, the company said Monday. [InfoWorld: Top News]

This is in the category of Oracle buying PeopleSoft - it is a big deal.
