NEA, School Districts Fight No Child Law (AP). AP - The nation's largest teachers union and school districts in three states Wednesday launched a legal fight over No Child Left Behind, aiming to free schools from complying with any part of the education law not paid for by the federal government. [Yahoo! News: U.S. National]

Love or hate the every child left behind law, there is one fundemental flaw that has always been side-stepped.  Now we will see how serious the federal government is about their program.  Oh, and did I mention the lack of funding available?

Inflation Surge Is Biggest in Five Months (AP). AP - Consumer prices jumped 0.6 percent in March, the biggest inflation surge in five months, as the costs of energy, clothing and airline fares all rose sharply. [Yahoo! News: Top Stories]

Well, let's see - we have high gas prices (and they are not likely to come down before fall), ridiculously low interest rates, vehicles that get less than 10 mile to the gallon, wasteful spending by the government, increased government debt (from both wasteful and required programs that have out-lived their usefulness) and a job market that is either outsourced off-shore, being paid significantly less then than even three years ago and large numbers of people still out of work.  Oh, and ads telling us to buy more so consumer debt is over $10,000 per person.  And they wonder why the economy is in trouble?

Report: Private Screeners Do a Better Job (AP). AP - A congressional investigation found airport screeners employed by private companies do a better job detecting dangerous objects than government screeners, according to a House member who has seen the classified report. [Yahoo! News: U.S. National]

While I am surprised by this result, what surprises me more is that it is classified - this is our traveling safty (and our tax dollars) at work.
