D.C. Scare Puts Alert System to the Test (AP). AP - The terror alert system in the nation's capital was put to the test by a small plane that flew within three miles of the White House, leading to the frantic evacuation of government buildings. [Yahoo! News: Top Stories] Before you get all excited and start patting people on the back, you should know that people working a block (that's about 500 yards) from the north side of the White House, in government facilities, knew nothing about this unless they happened to have a radio on.  There was no evacuation notice, no hint of anything amiss.  System does not work, if saving lives is the what the system is designed to do. 9:12:49 AM    comment []

National ID Battle Continues. Senators pass legislation that would standardize driver's licenses nationwide, but some of them do so reluctantly.
