Congressman Backs Asteroid Agency. A California representative says he'll push to create an official agency responsible for protecting the Earth from wayward asteroids. By Amit Asaravala. [Wired News]
I'm sorry - what? We need another federal agency wasting tax dollars? We already have the Department of Homeland Security pouring money down the drain and that is for a cause most people at least understand (well, ok, they may not really understand it, but it plays well and that is what seems to matter most).
But asteroids? What are you going to do if you find one? Hope it goes away? After all, the US military cannot shoot down a drone with a missile and the flight plan, how are they going to destroy a rather large chunk of space debris? Assuming of course they can hit it.

Wis. pushes bill to drop drinking age for soldiers. One Wisconsin lawmaker figures if the U.S. military trusts 19-year-olds with a $10 million tank, then the state should trust ... [USATODAY.com Nation - Top Stories]
I happen to agree - and disagree with MADD on this. If the brain is not fully developed until age 21 (and I would argue in many it never fully develops), then why are we trusting these children with not only $10 million tanks, but automobiles, tractor-trailers and all manner of other lethal weapons, including firearms, both in and out of the military.
It is time for the puritan values of the United States to be overturned and instead look at the research from the rest of the world. Further, if you trust an 18 year old to cast a vote for President, get married without their parents permission or to drive, smoke or go to war, why do you not trust them with a six pack of beer? The logic is faulty every time I hear it and I cannot reconsile it with the realities of the rest of the priviledges. If human beings are not fully developed or mature, then do not extend to them the rights that they currently have.

New Mytob worm poses as IT administrator. New Mytob worm variant could allow hackers to remotely access an infected machine, researchers warn. [Computerworld News]
One more time. What do you do when you get an email that you did not request? You delete it, especially if it has an attachment. You do not pass go, you do not collect the virus it is carrying. Now what else do you do? That is correct, you keep your anti-virus software up to date so that you are at a lower risk of being affected.
