Canada Lawmakers Approve Gay Marriage Bill (AP). AP - Canada would become only the third country in the world to legalize gay marriage under landmark legislation passed in the House of Commons in spite of fierce opposition from Conservatives and religious leaders. [Yahoo! News: Top Stories]

As you might expect the religious right, that bastion of free thought and open expression, who's great leaders, way back in the early days of the church said "

If the Lord leads me on the way that I may become Christian, then I will also become a monk, and will keep my body without stain until the day when the Lord will come for me. [Freeman 236]

And when talking about sex and sexuality:

How shall we tie down this wild beast?  How shall we put a bridle on it?  I know none, save only the restraint of hell fire. [Freeman 237]

What should scare you is that the church's view of sex has not really changed much in 2000 years.  They still see it at best as something to be tolerated and at worst as the fastest way to damnation.  It should not come as a surprise that they are offended.  Of course, Canada, always thinking outside the box solved the problem that immediately comes to most clergy's mind and included this section:

The legislation, however, states that the bill only covers civil unions, not religious ones, and no clergy would be forced to perform same-sex ceremonies unless they choose to do so.

I also found this quote very interesting:

Canadians have largely approached this issue in a rational and democratic way and are providing a very positive model for the rest of the world.

Now, what is the problem in the United States?  Oh, besides the issue of the majority of people surveyed.  I have always wondered who those usual suspects were...

Rebuilding Indexes. I know this question has been asked earlier and I am sorry to take up this question slot but I am confused regarding rebuilding indexes. If I am interpreting it correctly, you don't recommend rebuilding indexes at all. I have talked to two se... [Ask Tom MOST RECENT ARTICLES]

Geek post, but one of a long running arguement among database people.  If you are one, then you have had this discussion several times a week...at least.

Minn. Boy Left Quadriplegic by Lion, Tiger (AP). AP - A 10-year-old boy who was attacked by a lion and tiger last week suffered a brain injury and severed spinal cord in the mauling — injuries that have left the child a quadriplegic and dependent on a respirator, his family said Tuesday. [Yahoo! News: U.S. National]

Every time I read one of these articles, the same question goes through my mind.  What were these people thinking?  I feel sorry for the boy, I do.  But what possessed his parents to even agree to having the cage of a wild animal (and that folks, for all their fur, is what lions and tigers and bears are, wild animals) with their child in the same zip code?   I am certain that all the tiger saw was a snack as millions of years of evolution has honed into every gene in their body.  You may not agree that a zoo is a proper place for a wild animal.  There are some zoos that I would say are worse than prisons, but keeping one of these animals at home is just plain dumb.
