Time Magazine to Hand Over Reporter Notes (AP). AP - In one of the most serious legal clashes between the media and the government in three decades, Time magazine agreed to comply with a court order to turn over the notes of a reporter threatened with jail for refusing to identify a source. This is a very disturbing turn of events. I do not argue with the ownership - the computers belong to Time, thus the information stored on them belong to Time. What is disturbing is that they are taking the decision out of the hands of their journalists, which have traditionally been protected from contempt charges over refusing to reveal a source. While I cannot say I am particularly enthralled with the current media and their lack of direction, I have to say that this will do nothing to improve investigative reporting, which over the last decade has become more sensational and less investigative.
