Digital TV switch suggested for 2009. Farewell, analog. Politicians want to ban the sale of analog TVs soon--and set a firm date for all-digital broadcasts. [CNET News.com]

I have said it before and I will say it again - why do we need digital TVs?  There is nothing good on now...I smell a rat.

Chertoff to Overhaul Homeland Security (AP). AP - Proclaiming the Homeland Security Department "open to change," Secretary Michael Chertoff on Wednesday announced plans to centralize his agency's terror analysis, put a higher priority on bioterrorism and step up detection systems in mass transit. [Yahoo! News: Top Stories]

We will see what sort of real change and improvement comes of this.  If they lift the stupid 30 minute rule flying out of National Airport it will be a start.  Before we worry about people moving around the cabin, maybe we should worry about security on the flight deck, something that was mandatated in the 80s, some 20 years before September 11.  No one has successfully explained to me why the flight deck doors were not secured like they were supposed to be.

Bush Passes on Public Endorsement of Rove (AP). AP - President Bush passed up a chance Wednesday to express confidence in senior aide Karl Rove in a political fight over a news leak that exposed a CIA officer's identity. The lack of endorsement surprised some White House officials who had been told Bush would back his embattled friend. [Yahoo! News: Top Stories]

Of course he did.  Now if he was a smart man, Mr. Rove would be looking for work tomorrow morning.  I am not holding my breath.

Disney World Reopens 'Tower of Terror' (AP). AP - Disney World on Wednesday reopened a thrill ride that was closed when a 16-year-old British girl almost died of cardiac arrest after riding it. [Yahoo! News: U.S. National]

Before you start blaming Disney for having unsafe rides (they have to be some of the best maintained pieces of equipment I have ever seen and I have ridden a lot of rides in a lot of settings) remember that there are those that refuse to see a doctor on a regular basis and therefore do not know or care to know about the problems in their own bodies.  In all the reported cases, the casue of the collapse has been related to congenital causes not the failure or unsafeness of the rides.  I have been on both the Tower and Mission: Space.  I liked the latter (wasn't crazy about Tower) and did not find the rides to be any more heart stopping than a scary roller coaster.  And I am looking forward to riding them again.
