IP is like water; we all need it to survive, but it's not very sexy. One of the big issues is training. We have a lot of people that think they understand IPv4 and clearly do not. How are you going to get them to plan a migration to IPv6, let along manage the deployment of it? There is a great cash shortage in the Federal Government at the moment for IT related initiatives. Yet along comes OMB with what has to be the single biggest, most unwieldy upgrade since the migration to Windows95. This is not just new desktops. You are talking about replacing almost every piece of hardware in the infrastructure that supports IP that you have not purchased in the last 4 years. If you are not running Windows XP, or Server 2003, or a recent release of UNIX, or the current IOS for your Cisco gear, you are DOA. Forget about paying for a new system to help the average American. You need to start writing cheques to some very big companies. And while you are at it, you will have to replace your monitoring solutions...
