Colo. Bans Young Drivers' Cell Phones (AP). AP - Beginning Monday, Colorado is banning young drivers from talking on cellular phones while they're behind the wheel — a small step more states are taking in hopes of promoting safety without upsetting voters who can't live without the convenience. [Yahoo! News: U.S. National]
I do not disagree with this one. There are enough distractions in driving for young people behind the wheel. Yacking on a cell phone does not need to be one. As a young driver, I was not permitted (by my parents, not the law) to have the radio on or talk while I was driving (except to ask a quick question about directions). I think it made me a better, more attentive driver. You do not need a cell phone attached to your ear every moment of every day.

U.S. Archbishop Subpoenaed Ahead of Mass (AP). AP - Archbishop William Levada, soon to be the highest ranking American at the Vatican, was welcomed to his final Sunday Mass here by thousands of admiring parishioners, a few critics and a subpoena compelling him to testify about sex abuse in the Roman Catholic Church. [Yahoo! News: U.S. National]
The more I read about the Roman Catholic church, the less enamoured I am about organized religion in general and catholicism in particular - and this is beyond the current round of scandals that are making the news (these sorts of things have been going on for years, so it really should come as no surprise). I am, however, beginning to understand more and more the general backwards thinking that seems to run the United States.
