Karzai Wants End to U.S.-Led Operations (AP). AP - President Hamid Karzai on Tuesday challenged the need for major foreign military operations in Afghanistan, saying air strikes are no longer effective and that U.S.-led coalition forces should focus on rooting out terror bases and support networks. Mayor Suspends Reopening of New Orleans (AP). AP - Bars, restaurants and shops had just begun showing signs of life when the mayor halted the repopulation of the city and once again ordered everyone to leave town as a new tropical storm headed toward the Gulf of Mexico. [Yahoo! News: U.S. National] While I am glad to see some sanity in the Gulf Region, I have to wonder why they are even thinking about returning.  It is one thing to put a stake in the ground, but without running water and the continuing risk of contamination from the muck and mire left over, I would think any mayor who is concerned for his citizens would be a lot slower to get people back in. 8:36:45 AM    comment []
