Flat panel glut good for Christmas shoppers: survey (Reuters). Reuters - Consumers may still enjoy sharply lower prices of flat panel monitors and LCD TVs during the Christmas peak selling season, because oversupply of panels is bigger than expected, a survey found on Wednesday. [Yahoo! News: Technology News]
No kidding? Gee, I wonder why? Could it have anything to do with most of the Gulf Coast not having a house and the rest of us too busy trying to pay for gas? I know I probably will not be buying one this Christmas. In fact, it is likely to be a very lean Christmas.

Nix the Ban on Sports Drugs. Rules restricting athletic enhancers like steroids are hypocritical and ultimately unenforceable. But there is another way to level the playing field -- let the players set their own limits. By Mark McClusky. [Wired News]
He may be on to something. Players will cheat, no matter what - if you remove the barriers, what happens? After all, other than being bad for you, have steriods had a negative impact on baseball?

China Gets Tougher on Foreign Media (Los Angeles Times). Los Angeles Times - SHANGHAI — After presiding over the opening of Hong Kong Disneyland last week, Walt Disney Co. President Robert Iger headed straight to Beijing to meet Liu Yunshan, chief of the Communist Party's powerful Propaganda Department. [Yahoo! News: Top Stories]
This is a case of nothing more than governmental control run amok. And unfortunately, there is little the United States media giants can do about it besides play mother may I.

Indonesia says bird flu outbreak may become epidemic (Reuters). Reuters - Indonesia said on Wednesday an outbreak of bird flu in its teeming capital could become an epidemic as health and agricultural experts from around the world converged on Jakarta to help control the virus.[Yahoo! News: Top Stories]
While an outbreak of bird flu is not yet likely in North or South America, this is something that should be watched carefully by those that manage emergencies. In almost all the cases of the flu outbreak, the poultry population has been exterminated. Think about this for a moment. If the chickens are killed, then there becomes a food shortage. Kill enough and you are beginning to see the sharp end of a very dangerous situation where the potential for massive food shortages (chickens and eggs) could lead to serious problems over and above the issues related to the disease.

North Korea says US using talks as pretext for attack (Reuters). Reuters - North Korea accused the United States on Wednesday of using diplomatic talks to try and take away its nuclear arms so that Washington could crush the reclusive state with an atomic weapons strike. [Yahoo! News: Top Stories]
Is it paranoia if they really are out to get you? Or are you just nuts to begin with. While I question a lot of what the United States government does, if this is even a plausible case, then there are much bigger issues than whether or not North Korea has nuclear weapons.
More importantly, should a government that understands so little about the affects of nuclear weapons even be allowed to posses them? That is like giving a loaded automatic weapon to a 5 year-old and telling him to have fun...oh wait, that already happens...

Rockies tee off on NL West-leading Padres 20-1. Coming off three straight tight and impressive victories, the NL West-leading San Diego Padres took an embarrassing step backward, ... [USATODAY.com MLB NL - Top Stories]
I do not know what is more depressing. That the loss was so bad or that they are still leading the West and only playing .500 ball. When they play in the first round, I am guessing gone in 4.
