There is something to be said for experience, especially at the Major League level. There is no question Girardi was a top notch catcher defensively, but he has no managerial experience (bench coach for the Yankees really does not count, I am sorry to say). He is going to be brutalized in the press and with the Marlin's tradition of just paying enough to get by, it is unlikely he will shine. He may have moments of glory, but this will be a mistake and I predict he will not last out his contract and will not get a job as a Manager anytime soon after that.

Sometimes it is not the best that deserve to win but the team that wants to be the best. St. Louis is starting to look like the Braves while Houston just keeps winning when it counts. Good luck to the Astros in the World Series - I think this year I am rooting for the National League!
