Users assess disaster plans. Amid the devastation of Hurricane Wilma last week, IT professionals appraised their disaster-recovery and data-protection plans and said their strategies are in flux, regular testing is necessary and funding is still hard to get. [Big ol' Network World Fusion feed]

Remember, diasters do not happen here...until they do.  Too bad the CFOs and CEOs are more concerned about their paycheques than they are about being able to keep their employee's paycheques coming.

Teacher beaten at Alabama school dies. A teacher who was beaten at a school last week has died, and authorities said murder charges were possible against the 15-year-old ... [USATODAY.com Nation - Top Stories]

Two questions are foremost in my mind.

First, what sort of environment does one have to live, such that, at age 15 (as reported) you feel it necessary to beat someone to death for what was previously reported as a bad grade?  How bad was it?  Did the individual fail a test?  What are we teaching our children?  That failure is not an option?  This is not NASA.  Kids fail.  If they are not doing their best work, then they need to be sat on, but it does happen.

The second question I have is what sort of law enforcement system do we have that says you are not going to be identified for murdering someone.  Unless you are mentally incompetent (and there are many who are, regardless of age) then you should be charged with murder and suffer the full penalties there to.  Period.

Beating a teacher is one of the lowest crimes on the list of low crimes.  It is time to start throwing the book at the hoodlums and delinquents.
