Back in Gear
Total silence for three months does not mean this blog is dead; it only means that this has been a hellish summer. That said, the incredible good news is that the constitutional amendment to destroy families in Massachusetts was crushed soundly (even if many voted against it only because they want even more draconian measures). There is still a fight ahead, but I choose to believe that as time passes more and more people will see that no one is harmed by same-sex marriage, and many would be grievously harmed by its loss.
Along the way Romney has revealed himself to be a deceptive hypocritical craven governor with presidential aspirations but no moral center, and Schwarzenegger and (even more disappointing) Weld have provided an object lesson in the fact that your putative friends will turn on you if you offer them enough of what they want (in this case, the chance to play just one more round of being the governor)
The only good news about our state and federal government and their craven lack of leadership is that the Republican party has unmasked itself as the anti-free-trade, pro-big-business, homophobic, racist, sexist, classist, incompetent morally bankrupt party of short-term tax relief and damn the infrastructure of the country.
My biggest complaint is that President Bush and the Republican Congress have lived up to every over-stated rabid anti-Republican paranoid fantasy, and then exceeded it with vindictive, crass, inept policies. It make cynics of us all, and that is a sad thing.
I'll start writing again; I'd like to take on the Advocate for the biphobia and their crass abandonment of politically insightful material to make room for titillation and platitudes. Not to mention the fact that they ship their magazine that purports to analyze the harm done to the community by being in the closet in an opaque wrapper. Will someone please start a true Queer magazine that covers the range of political and social challenges facing Lesbians, Homosexuals, Bisexuals, the Transgendered and Transsexuals, not to mention all the others of us who do not fit into neat cubby holes?
Okay, enough ranting for one day, I write only to tell you that this blog is back and to ask you to feel free to leave comments; there is much to discuss.
