William Bennett Unmasks Himself

William Bennet, author of "The Moral Compass," "The Book of Virtues," self-described  "devout catholic"  high-stakes gambler, syndicated radio show host and former Reagan Secretary of education said the following (transcript from Media Matters, carefully not taken out of context)*

"I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could -- if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down. That would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down."

* A caller asserted that the book Freakonomics (by William Morrow) posits that the crime rate has gone down due to legalized abortion. Bennett's point was, apparently, that you can't just extrapolate from statistics. That may have been his point, but the "fact" with which he illustrated it speaks for itself.
