The asthma world turned upside down

First, as noted earlier today, dust may be good for kids. Now, a different study says vitamins might increase the risk of asthma in kids. Forbes.com says:

The mothers of the children described whether they had given their children vitamins at an early age, and whether their kids were diagnosed with a food allergy or asthma.

By the age of 3, 851 kids, 10 percent of those studied, were diagnosed with asthmas. By age 3, 396 kids, or 4.9 percent of those studied, were diagnosed with food allergies.

Tell me where is sanity.

Dust can prevent asthma in children?

Here's a story from the Times of India with a profoundly counterintuitive headline that I first thought must be a mistake. But apparently not.

WASHINGTON: Researchers at the Children's Hospital, Boston, and the Harvard Medical School have discovered a bacterial compound that collects in house dust, which may reduce or even prevent infantile asthma and eczema.

Makes me feel better about not keeping my kids' rooms cleaner.
