A medication or treatment that works wonders for one person, may do nothing for another asthmatic. Even trying to classify an asthmatic may be difficult. Triggers for asthma are just as varied and again what triggers one asthmatic may not bother another.
Just trying to classify asthma in a person can give clinicians headaches. There's intrinsic and extrinsic asthma, and within those classes there is a wide degree of severity. There's allergic asthma, brittle asthma, asthmatic bronchitis, cough variant asthma, and all combinations of these and others.
Emotional and psychological factors such as stress, anxiety, fears, even laughter and anger can play an important part in some asthmatic's problems.
There's also diet, home/work environments, age, levels physical activity, and illness which may or may not affect an asthmatic.
