Arnold terminates ridiculous inhaler rules I don't live in California, so I don't really know how to judge the totality of what Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has done since he gained office, but this seems like a positive, common sense move:
California children can carry asthma inhalers at school and during after-school activities under a law Gov. Schwarzenegger signed this week.
The law ensures children will have asthma medication when they need it, said Assemblywoman Sarah Reyes, D-Fresno. Reyes introduced the legislation in Assembly Bill 2132.
Schwarzenegger also signed Senate Bill 1912, companion legislation sponsored by Bakersfield Republican Roy Ashburn. SB 1912 allows students to carry and administer auto-injectable epinephrine for anaphylaxis, a potentially fatal allergic reaction.
Asthma affects up to 10 percent of children statewide, and the problem is more severe in the Central Valley.
Carrying prescription drugs on campus can land a student in the principal's office. Many districts have zero-tolerance drug rules that require a nurse or school official to distribute asthma medication to students.
If a kid needs medicine, and they know how to use it, there's no need for a gatekeeper.
