Don't worry, be happy

... if you can. Asthma is linked to psychological distress like depression, says the journal Thorax:

A total of 7,619 interviews were completed from an available sample of 10,080. Current doctor-diagnosed asthma was reported by 834 people (11.2%).

Asthmatic patients experienced psychological distress more frequently than non-asthmatics (17.9% versus 12.2%, respectively)

Asthmatics were also more likely to experience anxiety or depression (40.5% versus 31.2%).

Mental health conditions were also more common in patients with asthma than in those without asthma (16.2% versus 10.8%, respectively).
I think people who have issues with depression should be dealt with in a many acceptable to the individual. But, maybe the asthma is leading to the depression, and addressing the asthma will help the depression. Or maybe there's no causitive relationship at all, asthma and distress just show up together.
