Of the farm Kids raised on farms seem to have lower pediatric asthma rates. And it's not just getting away from the city:
The study, published in the online issue of the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, indicated that asthma prevalence was higher among non-farm, rural children when compared with farm-reared children and even higher among those described as living in towns. Among both non-farm rural children and children in town, asthma rates were similar to those seen in cities such as Milwaukee or Chicago.
This seems really counterintuitive to me, but I'm finding that's what asthma is all about. Animals, pollen and a heavy workload seem like they should be conducive to asthma, but maybe the emotional stability of being connected to the land has something to do with it.
