In the News Today...Take Your Vitamins!
TGIF! There's nothing earth-shaking in the medical news this morning, but a number of tidbits that argue strongly for taking a good daily multiple vitamin/mineral formula. Here's the evidence in favor from journal articles this week:
Magnesium may reduce risk of diabetes. This study found that diabetes risk was much lower in people who consumed the most magnesium. Protective doses for women are around 300mg, for men, 400mg. Most Americans do not get this amount from diet alone the study concluded. Another good reason to take your Maxi Multi (500mg of magnesium) or MyPacks (525mg). Read the full article here: MSNBC
Free Radicals Go mainstream! We've long talked about "free radical damage" and the importance of antioxidants in holistic and alternative medical circles, but now the damage caused by free radicals has been "proved" and acknowledged in conventional medicine. This study showed that free radical damage caused Alzheimer's-like changes in the brain
There are approximately 40 micronutrients required in the human diet, and a deficiency of any one of these can have serious health consequences. Increased risks of diabetes, heart disease, cancer, dementia to name a few. View this great chart at the U. of So. Cal Davis.
My Bottom Line from Today: I don't know about you, but I'm going to continue taking my optimum potency multi vitamin/mineral supplement (I take Maxi Multis) every day!
Have a great weekend. My family is planning a "mini reunion" for Father's Day, so I'll be out of the office until Tuesday. Please check back here then for the next update. Go hug a dad!
