Virginia Panel Drafts Assisted Living Recommendations
RICHMOND, VA -- 10/05/2004 -- (Eli Digital) Virginia is one step closer to reforming its assisted living industry.
A state task force on aging has readied more than 20 recommendations
for the industry and will soon hand them to Gov. Mark Warner (D), the Washington Post
reports. The proposals include licensing facility administrators,
increasing fines for violations, requiring more training for workers
who administer medications and doubling the state subsidy for
low-income residents.
Maurice Jones, commissioner of the state Department of Social
Services, also plans to release a set of proposals this month that
would bring more than 50 regulatory changes to the industry, such as
tougher requirements for those who wish to open ALFs, according to the
paper.
