Kerry says Bush broke the law in TV ad dispute
President's campaign denies ties to vets' group
A simmering feud between the Bush and Kerry campaigns over a TV ad that denigrates Sen. John Kerry’s Vietnam war record moved toward the boiling point Friday as the Democratic nominee filed a complaint with federal officials that accused the president’s re-election campaign of breaking the law.
Kerry’s complaint to the Federal Elections Commission about the ads produced and aired by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth alleges "overwhelming evidence” that the veterans group is “coordinating its expenditures on advertising and other activities designed to influence the presidential election with the Bush-Cheney Campaign,” Kerry spokeswoman Allison Dobson told NBC News.
Formal ties would be illegal Any formal ties between the Bush campaign and the veterans group would be against the law. Swift Boat Veterans for the Truth is organized as a non-party, independent political group under section 527 of the Internal Revenue Code, and coordination between a 527 group and a presidential campaign is illegal.

From the Olympics
QUOTE OF THE DAY: "I heard the gold medals are gold-plated but the silver medals are all silver so they're worth more," said sprinter Lauryn Williams, who clearly has no idea how much money Madison Avenue can turn a gold medal into. "But I think I'd still probably want the gold."

GOP scheme to supress the black vote is back, nastier than ever
Errol Louis NY Daily News |
In nine urban communities throughout the swing states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan and Missouri, poisonous ads have popped up on black radio shows from a group calling itself People of Color United. The ads feature purely personal, racialized attacks on Democrat John Kerry - in fact, none of them mentions President Bush or asks listeners to vote for him.
Here's a sample:
"Our community doesn't need another wishy-washy, rich white politician, and boy, does Kerry come across as rich, white and wishy-washy."
Another ad says: "His wife [Mozambique-born Teresa Heinz Kerry] says she's an African-American. While technically true, I don't believe a white woman, raised in Africa, surrounded by servants, qualifies."
Rodney Capel, New York director of the Kerry campaign, predicts the tactic won't work. "We have no doubt these Republican- financed attacks ads are absolutely designed to suppress voter turnout," he says. "We believe African-Americans will tune them out and instead tune into the positive message of the Kerry-Edwards campaign."

Chris Matthews does it again!
Under intense questioning of Larry Thurlow, Chris exposes him as a man with a personal agenda;one filled with resentment at a man who spoke out against a war he felt was unjust. Thurlow talked about John Kerry having a secret plan to acquire medals to help his own political agenda,(If Kerry is that smart it seems he could have figured a way to further his political carreer without the risk of getting his head blown off), but as Mr Matthews does so eloquently( did I just right that?), he exposes Mr Thurlow of having no proof of his claims. The word "authentication" came up a few times. Once again making these swift boat veterans (for revenge)seem like scorned ex-lovers trying to fulfill a vendetta to hurt the person with vicious character attacks. Sort of like me calling Sean Hannity a lying, right wing memo reading RNC suck up,who will recite the same GOP lines over and over again as a Shakesperian actor might in a performance of Macbeth in order to promote his political agenda. Oh wait, that is the truth!
