Start to believe your own Hype Today, August 21, 2004, the United States basketball team suffered its second defeat in the Athens Olympics when Lithuania scored a 94-90 victory.  <story> When the US dream team first made it over 12 years ago, they were held in awe, they were determined, and scored very decisive victories.  Now, not only in sports, but in many areas including the arena of software development and technology, Americans are strong in hype and self promotion, but are increasingly seen as vulnerable.  The world is catching up.  They may still be superior in some respects but increasingly in smaller margins.  And until they decide very strongly to do something about it, this will disappear. Someday, some other people will be better than us, and that is all and well.  But it is all in ourselves not to allow this prematurely, and especially not because of ego, wrong self estimation, or false pride that we fail to perceive the threat.
