Windows XP Reduced Media Edition ( on tech) The European Commission says that it is unfair for Microsoft to bundle Windows Media Player for free because it gives them an unfair advantage. ( another news link in NY Times) . So Microsoft comes up with a version of Windows XP WITHOUT media player, and proposes to name it Windows XP Reduced Media Edition, but will sell it at the same price as Windows XP. The commission disallowed the name, and says Microsoft should not do anything that will make this version of Windows unattractive to consumers. Huh? Major European PC manufacturers says they don't plan to sell the Windows XP without the media player. Interesting. Am I missing anything here?
