The ECO Community Intern Program provides a unique opportunity for students to work directly with community organizations and experience environmental issues at a grassroots level. Since EPA's Office of Environmental Justice initiated this program in 2000, over 130 diverse students have participated in environmental justice projects ranging from health education to outreach and advocacy.
Each November the upcoming program is announced and applications are requested from community organizations. A panel reviews the projects and selects the community organizations to receive a student intern from ECO. Although ECO accepts applications year-round, organizations must apply for the 2005 Community Intern Program by January 31, 2005.
Holy Cow! Not even a month after Google Scholar was released, more big news from Google today. The company is announcing plans (very little has been done to this point) to work with libraries at Harvard, University of Michigan, Oxford, Stanford as well as the New York Public Library to scan and digitize MILLIONS of books in their collections -- in fact, in some cases, the entire collection. These are long term projects (many years). All of us will be watching. Gary has written an overview article for SearchDay .
