[Schools] Geothermal at Elementary School is Long Term Solution

School buildings are built the best when construction starts underground, way underground. The Pueblo 60 School District was able to invest in a geoexchange system for the new Irving Elementary School as part of district wide efforts to establish long-term energy-efficient projects for the 39 school buildings included in the District, located two hours south of Denver, Colorado. After a century of dependence on oil-based fuel, the auto industry is finally giving consumers a serious look at a future with little or no gasoline power. The products showing up this week in Detroit have far more corporate support than recent electricity-powered vehicles, and are advanced beyond the demonstration vehicles shown by car companies over the last few years. [Recycling] Gov. Schwarzenegger Proposes Eliminating State Recycling Board

In his annual State of the State address Jan. 5, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger proposed eliminating  more than 90 boards and commissions, including the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB). The board, established by the state assembly in 1989, has responsibility for implementing and enforcing waste reduction and recycling policies to meet the state's 50 percent waste reduction and recycling goal. CIWMB receives no money from the state's general fund, and its activities are supported mostly by fees collected from waste haulers that dispose of waste in the state.

Several groups oppose the proposal to eliminate CIWMB, including the environmental group Californians Against Waste. Executive Director Mark Murray said, "We believe that simply 'chopping off the administrative head' of the state's waste management and recycling agency would have serious consequences for the implementation and enforcement of policies designed to protect public health and the environment."
