[Biofuels] A Mushrooming Approach for Biofuels

Fallen logs on the forest floor make a perfect home for Shiitake mushrooms. These fungi -- sold as a delicacy in the produce sections of local supermarkets -- thrive on the downed wood, turning it into sugars that they use for food. The mushrooms could also offer a new approach to the efficient production of biofuels like ethanol, according to the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), the U.S. Department of Agriculture's chief scientific research agency. [Biodiesel] Going nuts over racing green

We are told by dieticians that seeds and nuts are good for us. But one particular variety is providing more than a daily boost to our diet - because it has been developed as a new green alternative fuel for a turbo-charged racing car. Yesterday, the first high-performance race car to be powered by a blend of biodiesel containing African "nut" oil was unveiled in Norfolk. [Source: EDP24.com]
