A New Wi-Fi Player in Town
In light of the recent events with TruckStop.net, a new Wi-Fi player has suddenly emerged in the news. SirriCOMM seems to be a major contender conveniently making news at the expense of TruckStop.net. Many of SirriCOMM location's are at the Pilot truck stops which TruckStop.net used to have (any may still have pending a litigation outcome with Sprint). At any rate, check out the informative Wi-Fi article entitled "Wireless Nation" by Kriten Record/Jill Dunn.

It's still hard for me to believe that "According to the American Trucking Associations, 21 percent of U.S.-based truckers carry a laptop on board, and 14 percent use the Internet while traveling." So one trucker in five carries a laptop. I find that figure rather amazing. If that is the case, I would think that the 14 percent figure would be much higher--closer to 25-30 percent. At any rate, it's a good article on the various players currently in the Wi-Fi arena for truckers to consider when considering a long/short term Wi-Fi solution for their needs.

Now if only the various Wi-Fi providers would allow a rate of $1.00 for the first hour--heck even for the 2nd hour. That would be sweet! (It would certainly boost the percent of truckers using Wi-Fi access on the road!)
