Lunchtime in Auckland [Auckland, New Zealand]

Well this is my first time at adding to the Blog so here goes.....

James is finally asleep and Gavin is off swimming at the YMCA on the other side of the road which I have recommended as a way of reviving the body when you are so knackered the world is spinning!!!

Having gone to bed at 4:30 yesterday afternoon our beloved son woke us up at 3am this morning wanting to play. Nothng could persuade him to go back to sleep and finally he climbed in his push-chair and wanted me to take him for a walk.  Auckland feels amazingly safe and I had no worries taking him for a walk around the harbour even in the pitch dark in the early hours!!!

Even this tactic failed so at 5:30 am we went off to Robbie's 24hr cafe for breakfast and then a walk around downtown Auckland just as the city was waking up. Auckland is kind of the opposite of Kuala Lumpur. It feels really small and its mostly full of caucasians but despite its size it doesn't feel half as friendly - or maybe Gavin and I had just got used to the whole world thinking our son was amazing and wanting to say "hello"!

----------------------------------------------

After lunch we took the Auckland Explorer bus up the road to Bastion Point and let James have a big runaround... and then he saw the tractor! So it was hat off and crouch down to see it better!

From there we walked down the hill to go to Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World, but James had seen it all before in Ellesmere Port.
Yeah, yeah, yeah - conveyor belt, sharks, rays.

There was an excellent view back to Auckland across the bay,and the boats were everywhere (Auckland apparently has the highest rate of boat ownership in the World).

We continued on our tour bus driven by a man wearing a 'Birkenhead Bus Company' hat - I explained what Birkenhead was really like, but he wasn't having any of it  as he'd been over to Chester in the summer to visit relatives there.

Our last port of call was to the All Blacks Official Mechandise store, so we should be able to manage a naff matching family outfit photo before we're done!

Last night in a proper bed for a while tonight , as we pick up the camper van tomorrow and head North to the Bay of Islands.
