Going, Going, Gone: IBM Sells PC Group To Lenovo

Truly some amazing times that we live in. I vividly remember the birth of the personal computer and how at the time it looks like IBM would indeed continue to rule the world. Every computer from that point on (or at least until a certain other computer was invented) was an IBM Compatible PC. I remember standing in more than a few computer shops with weary buyers buying their first computer making absolutely sure that it was indeed IBM compatible (even if they had no idea what that meant.

Times certainly have changes since those days and it's almost unfathomable to think that IBM has decided to sell of it's entire PC business. Sadly, as IBM was once thought of as Big Brother - that dubious honor now belongs to the company who was savvy enough to outsmart IBM all those years ago. All I can say is "All your bases are belong to us" - sigh..

Going, Going, Gone: IBM Sells PC Group To Lenovo: "It was rumored before, but now, as Rick Zeman writes, 'It's official: According to news.com, IBM has sold their PC business in a complex arrangement where, 'under the deal, IBM will keep an 18.9 percent stake in Levono. Lenovo will pay $1.25 billion for the IBM PC unit and assume debt, which will bring the total cost to $1.75 billion. Lenovo will pay roughtly $650 million in cash and $600 million in securities.' Plus, Lenovo will be able to use the IBM and Think names for 5 years.'"
