Sonnet debuts two 1.7GHz G4 upgrades, drops prices. Sonnet Technologies on Monday introduced two additions to its Encore/ST line of upgrade cards. Both of them feature 1.7GHz G4 processors; one fits the Power Mac G4 Cube while the other is aimed at owners of most "Sawtooth" Power Mac G4 systems, including the AGP Graphics, Gigabit Ethernet, Digital Audio and 2001 and 2002 Quicksilver models. Both upgrades automatically detect the bus speed of their host computers and configure themselves accordingly -- while the Cube model comes with all the necessary hardware, tools and instructions, Sonnet recommends that you have a professional install it. Mac OS X v10.3.5 is required and pricing is US$499.95; the rest of the Encore/ST line has been reduced between $20 and $100. [MacCentral News]
