A few important considerations when marketing your website:

  1. Your website should be a primary element in your overall marketing plan. Think strategically, rather than tactically.
  2. Choose a domain name that is easy to remember, and easy to spell (especially if heard on the radio). Generally, shorter domain names are better, as is the standard commercial dot-com ending. Avoid the use of hyphens and numerals in the name. Use either the name of your company (if short) or your main product in composing the domain name.
  3. Your website address (URL) should be listed on all your marketing materials, such as letterhead, business cards, press releases, invoices, flyers, display ads, etc. Include it in all of your advertising.
  4. Offline media and traditional publicity methods are also important. Promotional press releases should be sent to newspapers, broadcasters, etc.
  5. Write informative articles for online and offline publications. Include your website address. This is usually done at the end of the article, where author information is mentioned.
  6. Consider starting a blog to use in conjunction with your website. Frequent postings will help develop regular readers and a sense of credibility for you and your business. Also, search engines are quick to index blog postings.

Arizona ranks #1 in a recent national survey of small-business owners when asked to assess how good business conditions were. The May, 2005 data was released in the latest quarterly report by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).

Small-business owners, when asked to assess how good business conditions were, rated Arizona first in net-percent-improving category, first in net-percent saying sales were good and first in net-percent claiming profits were good.

The survey's first question asks small-business owners to rank how supportive their state's business environment is, including government, banks, media and community groups. Here, Arizona came in fifth among the largest state economies, in front of Texas and well ahead of California.

Said Michelle Bolton, Arizona NFIB director:

"It's no surprise at all that we're performing better than such states as California, but part of the reason is that we've naturally had a pretty darn good business climate overall, a climate which is conducive to creating stable conditions."
