Hewlett-Packard and Philips said Wednesday that they have developed a content-protection system for DVDs, designed to protect users from burning "protected" DTV broadcasts. The encryption system will be built into next-generation DVD players as well as media.
Ok, we'll all throw away the the millions of DVD players we've just bought and get new ones to play movies on just because the Content Facists have come up with another stupid way to keep us from copying DVDs.
Now Pay Attention Here: Hardly any normal people copy DVDs, they don't have the time or tech to do that. So the few kids and geeks who waste their lives at such frivolous activities are going to cost all of us hundreds of dollars and countless problems. Then there are the video rental places who will be expected to replace their inventories and deal with the complaints of customers who can't play the movies they rent without a new box.
Wethinks someone needs to get a life, or treatment or shoot a few lawyers.
