Hey, How's it brah? Thought I'd ask your professional opinion - I am looking at opening a business and I am looking for ideas on an inexpensive way to get an informational website going. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated...

Thanks,
Bob

Bob, Why don't you put up a simple Blog. They are VERY easy to implement, many sites will host you for free! and it is Extremely Cool!

'Blogger' is a great site to get started, Google owns them.

Though I've only been blogging since November, I've already received a few encouraging emails from complete strangers who stumbled on to it. No one has told me to fuck off yet.

Most regular websites - basically all those written in HTML - provide extensive support for graphics, and flexible page layouts. They also have a structure based on linked 'pages' that must each be separately prodcued and arranged by someone. Changes in such a website must be done with care, and they usually require special software.

Blogs by contrast, are more like self-publishing 'Journals.' Once the layout and basic structure is chosen, each new entry that you submit is automatically formatted, published, announced and even backed-up. The reader navigates your site by a clickable calendar in the corner where they can scroll about to see everything ever posted. The best part of blogs is that they can announce themselves using the RSS (Real Simple Syndication) protocol, which can send automatic updates to subscribers. Blog don't require that you register a URL like bobjoy.com, although you can also do that. I host my blog where my website used to be, it's a lot smaller and easier to operate.

Blogs are a low-maintenance way to maintain a web-presence without the overhead of a typical 'website' They scale well and can be grown into a customized publishing or web site.

Well, I thInk I just wrote tomorrow's blog entry!

Aloha, Scott
