MacHelp stay manuhe'u Hardware, software and meatwear errors have conspired fo’ make MacHelp stay manuhe'u. I thought the word I wanted was ‘kapakahi, but that means crooked, or out of balance while ‘manuhe?u’ means damaged, which describes the condition of my gear, blog and life right now.
It turns out that there was a driver bug in the Maxstore FireWire drive I have - a bug that causes minor problems such as a loss of access to all your files! So I wasn’t hallucinating when my drive chewed its legs off, just real unlucky. Too bad it didn’t hit hit about three weeks later, after MaxStore chose to release a patch for the problem. [sigh] Then there was the organic carbon-unit virus - probably brought to Maui by airplane and eagerly shared with my wife and I. Now, I hardly ever get sick, ADHD usually lets me keep going until either the bug gives up or I fall out of the tree. This time the tree won and our house became a sick ward haunted by two hacking shades sucking on bottles of DayQuil, NyQuil and PleaseLetMeDieQuil while we leaned against each other and Ulu the Border Collie made large piles of unused plastic dog toys and wondered why no one would play with her. To prove my fallibility, I chose this time to back up and erase my boot drive in anticipation of OS X 10.4 Tiger’s arrival. I didn’t realize that the combination of viral life-forms and over the counter drugs had reduced my IQ to way below my body temperature, and I proceeded to carefully make two blank DVDs and then backup all my applications to the trash. God had fortunately extended her ‘drunks and fools’ clause to art nerds though, and the only real damage I did was to this blog, which was hammered into a thin layer by my efforts. Every other program could be restored from backups, and even the long-awaited Tiger update went off without a hitch. But Radio UserLand, the program I use to maintain this blog got tied up in a knot and heaved beneath the treads of my fevered brain. So what you see here is the first of my feeble, post-influenza attempts at bringing MacHelp Maui back to life. There will be more, there could even be a new Podcast once I stitch this thing back together. Sorry about all this, but living in paradise isn’t always ideal - we share it with some brutal little suckcockers who occasionally remind us of our mortality, limitations and the infinite possibility for carbon-unit malfunctions. 10:20:31 AM [Macro error: The file "pushpin.gif" wasn't found.]
